Edublogs Is NINE Years Old! Our Plans For The Future

9Years

This week, we celebrate NINE years of Edublogs!

It is hard to imagine, but when Edublogs was launched, there was no iPhone or smart phones, Facebook was limited to university students only, and twitter didn’t exist yet either. What did we all do with ourselves!?

We’re seriously humbled, honored, and in awe that so many have made us an integral part of their learning journeys.

From our entire team, we really can’t thank you all enough.

So, What’s Next!?

Here’s a brief look into some of the goals we have set for Edublogs as we enter our 10th year (and beyond):

1. CampusPress – Our popular service, CampusPress, brings the power of Edublogs to your entire school, district, or university. CampusPress is branching out into way more than just blogging. In the coming months, several schools and school districts will begin hosting their entire websites with us. We’re stoked!

2. ePorfolios Everywhere – Edublogs and CampusPress have become a leading platform for student ePortfolios. We’ll continue to build out new plugins and features that make this even better.

3. Learning Management – Along with ePortfolios, we’ll continue to improve our student and learning management tools – including a brand new way of handling entire online courses.

4. Beautiful Themes – We’ve been working for a long time on a secret new theme tool that will revolutionize the way you design your blogs and websites. I can’t say too much just yet, but this will be huge!

5. A Growing Community – The recent launch of the new Edublogs Reader is just the beginning of a long term plan to help our users share and discover content. Look for more events and tools like the Reader to enhance your edublogging experience by connecting up with others.

What Would You Like To See?

Leave us a comment below with features or tools you think we should add to Edublogs.

We love to hear your feedback and promise to see what we can do to make it happen!

Thank you so much to all of the educators, students, and users that have joined the Edublogs community and helped build it into what it is today. We enjoy working with you all and appreciate so much the work that you all do.

Here’s to 99+ more years!

  1. In response to your question concerning what I would like to see in the future for Edublogs:
Currently, students can receive email notification when an item has been added to the blog. and It would be beneficial if students could receive a text message as well.
    Thank you.

  2. We are using Edublog for Blogging last one year, we have learn great things.
Thank u very much for kind attention for new users.

  3. Hello!!! Congratulations everybody!!! Thank you so much for blogging and for the great work you do.

  4. Dear Sue, Ronnie and the wonderful Edublogs Team,
Congratulations upon your 9th Birthday. I’ve been around since 2008 and have received great service from you all. Our students love our Visual Arts@ Taylors Lakes Primary School Blog and it certainly showcases our Art Program but we need to sell the Blogging idea to our Classroom Teachers. If there was some way in which the teachers could access only their class page via a password or something that would be a great introduction to Blogging for them and their students. I’m sure that they would then start their own blog or our school could use Edublogs Campus. It would be ideal if they could only see that Blogging is not something “extra” but that it gives writing a real purpose and a global audience.
I look forward to all the exciting new features and thank you for the excellent overall Edublogs experience of the past. In January 2015 I will have been teaching for 40 years. Edublogs has provided me with opportunities to reflect on teaching and learning, to network and to think globally. I really hope to be able to share the positive experiences I have had with Edublogs with our great younger staff members before I retire.
Best Regards and Happy Birthday from Yvonne Osborn, Taylors Lakes, Melbourne, Australia.

    1. Hi Yvonne,

Thanks for kind words! Congratulations on how long you have been teaching and how well your visual arts blog is going!

Do you mean password privacy for viewing the blog so that only someone with the password can view what is posted on the blog or do you mean only a password to be able to access the dashboard (and no username)?

  5. WOW! I didn’t realise so many years had passed. Through learnerblogs into edublogs and now campus setup. Thank you so much team for all the great work you do for blogging in education. It is thrilling to have met in person at least three of your team while at ISTE conferences. Thank you all so much for your 24/7/365 service, wherever in the world you are.

    1. Hi Sue, We appreciate all of your hard work with the Student Challenges too. Such an important project that has touched thousands of students around the globe!

      1. We also appreciate all your work on the Student Blogging Challenge as my students have been the direct beneficiaries of your expertise and dedicated time. Without you and others like you, the Blogging Challenge would not exist, and it is such a positive experience for so many students. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  6. Thank YOU for all you do! The customer service I receive from Edublogs for my $39.95 per year far outweighs that which I receive from my $1000+ computer or my $30,000 car. You are worth your weight in gold! Blogging has become my students’ favorite activity, as in, “Are we going to blog today?” said with hopeful voice and hands clenched as if in prayer. My only regret is that I am a tortoise in the learning race, steady…. but slow. I know there is so much out there that I have yet to learn, and yet, I see how much progress my class and I have made in the two years we’ve been blogging. We are humbled and inspired by all the good work done by Edublogs (Sue Waters, especially!) and by all the other wonderful classes we have met through blogging. Here’s to 99+ more years!

    1. What a great comment! What is slower than a tortoise… perhaps a sloth? I have played a bit with Edublogs and mean to get my class going on it every year. It is encouraging to hear your students feelings about blogging. Perhaps 9 is the lucky number and this will be the year!

      1. Nine is three times luckier than 3, so yes, this is your year!!! My first post in 2012 was nothing more than, “I am trying to teach myself blogging this summer. It is hard to teach myself about a new technology while alone in my kitchen.” Although I am not anywhere near as proficient as some of my blogging role models, such as Linda Yollis, Jan Smith, Mrs. Rombach, I am much further along than I was in my kitchen on June 13, 2012. You can do it, too! Take the first step in the race; even a sloth can cross the finish line once it decides that’s its goal. Let me know your blog address, and I’ll be your first visitor and write your first comment.
